Pain has a complex etiology and occurs in many chronic diseases. Effective treatment of chronic pain requires a multimodal approach, which includes the use of medications, rehabilitation, psychotherapy, neuromodulation, as well as procedural and surgical methods. Whenever possible, alongside symptomatic therapy, causal treatment should be employed. Before starting pharmacological treatment, a detailed assessment of the pain is necessary—its causes, intensity, temporal characteristics, factors that trigger and exacerbate it, its impact on the patient's daily functioning, and the effectiveness of previous treatment methods.
